Sensitivity study for the radionuclide inventory in the decommissioning of a light water reactor plant

Okumura, Keisuke; Hagura, Hiroyuki; Kojima, Kensuke; Yamamoto, Kento; Tanaka, Kenichi*

no journal, ,

A method of the activation sensitivity analysis was developed for the optimization of the inventory evaluation of radionuclides in the waste generated in the decommissioning of LWR plants. By applying the method to a BWR plant, we clarified the impurity nuclides in the structural materials and their nuclear reactions contributing the generation of about fifty radioactive nuclides important for the processing and disposal of radioactive wastes.

For the purpose of estimation of radionuclides inventory in the various radioactive solid wastes, such as soils, trees, generated from decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), the methodology of estimation of on-site radionuclides inventories is being developed based on the dependency on distance and direction from the FDNPS of their off-site distribution.

In the forests where radioactive plumes passed just nearby the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station, the inventory of radionuclides, such as $$^{134}$$Cs, $$^{137}$$Cs, $$^{90}$$Sr, $$^{238}$$Pu, $$^{239+240}$$Pu, $$^{241}$$Am and $$^{244}$$Cm, in the topsoil was evaluated so that its applicability to estimate the on-site distribution of radionuclides inventory was discussed.
